Striking a Balance between the 2 I’s

As my journey in dealing with cancer continues, I am realizing more each day that there is a lot I must also do on my own besides the allopathic treatment efforts undertaken by my doctors and specialists in taking tangible steps in overcoming this illness.

At times, it seems as if each and every day is always uphill with ongoing bouts of fatigue and feeling down.  However, I am doing by best to overcome any negative thoughts and feelings.  Accordingly, I have started to refocus on specific and tangible steps I must take with respect to positive lifestyle, health and wellness.

I am also re-looking at tangible ways to reduce any sources of inflammation while boosting my immune system.  I am specifically focusing on my diet, rest, exercise, training, and motivation as a means to strike a balance between inflammation sources and my immune system.  I have started to do regular hatha yoga, pranayama (deep breathing), bhajan (devotional songs), increased my hydration via water, regular drinking of vegetable juices (beet root, carrot, ginger etc.), taking turmeric, and cutting down on any artificial / processed foods.

Deep down, on this journey, I realize that there is no “silver bullet”, but, I must also help find ways to actively complement, support and assist the efforts of my doctors and specialists as they undertake my treatment.  I also got to keep going, one step-at-a-time, be practical and realistic on my expectations as well as outcomes.  Since “it is what it is”, I just have to look forward and not look back.  All things are possible when I start looking within to tap into an inner source of strength leading to positive thoughts, words and actions.
