Yoga Basics

Yoga has become very popular worldwide and is a well accepted alternative method to wellness, positive health and lifestyle. An essential part of any wellness program is to focus on a positive way-of-life which enables an individual to become complete and wholesome from within while enhancing self-awareness and achieving self-satisfaction. Along these lines, yoga is also one of the best and time-tested approaches to achieving unity of “Spirit-Mind-Body”. In the practice of yoga, there are multiple positions, each with their own specific purpose and resulting benefits thereof. The main goal is to be firm, relaxed and extended over a long duration of time from which yields multiple wellness benefits to the mind and to the body. Among these multiple benefits, different forms of yoga provide combinations of enhanced derivatives consisting of, but not limited to; muscular strength; muscular endurance; flexibility; stress release and; core strength. Whether the person is at the beginner, intermediate or advanced stage, yoga can enable the “yogin” or practitioner to derive the various multiple benefits. Another important facet of yoga is that it can be incorporated as part of any sports or athletic fitness program and be coupled with the necessary aerobic, anaerobic, as well as resistance training for that particular sport. Depending on the individual needs and goals, a customized wellness program can consist of combinations of; Hatha Yoga; Iyengar Yoga; Core Yoga; Vinyasa Yoga; Power Vinyasa etc. In summary, it is important to seriously consider yoga as part of a sound and balanced wellness program with emphasis on tapping into inner positive energy resulting in overall well-being.
